First Touch

First Touch Ministry

The First Touch Ministry serves a vital role in the life of our church. We are the "first impression" guests receive of our church. It has been demonstrated in numerous surveys and studies that the first 15 minutes guests are on our campus are enormously important in whether they choose to return for a second or third visit. The Scriptures tell us to, “Welcome one another in the Lord with great joy!” Philippians 2: 29 (NIV)

As a ministry, we partner with people who are investing and inviting their un-churched neighbors, co-workers, friends and family to attend church. They've finally gotten them to agree to come, maybe just once, and they are entrusting us with this relationship. One wrong word or inappropriate move can blow it! We take this responsibility very seriously and need volunteers that will love people and do the same.

The First Touch Ministry is divided into three areas of service: Facilities & Grounds, Greeting/Parking/Hosts/Ushers & Hospitality Ministry.

Scheduling Requirements
  • Plan and schedule the weeks you are "on," make this a priority

  • If you have a conflict, get a substitute (a substitute list will be provided)

  • Arrive early and leave late

  • Smile, have fun and enjoy the experience

Weekend Guidelines
You should arrive 35-40 minutes before the service time. Go to our volunteer headquarters and get your nametag. During the first 15 minutes, have refreshments and be in community with other team members. The Guest Services Coordinator will review the weekend activities and other special events. Each volunteer should take time to review bulletin inserts and information so that you can answer guest questions. You will also receive any other updates or happenings in the church.

Share prayer requests and pray as a group. Why is this important? It creates relationships with fellow team members -- what St. Mark’s calls "community." Praying together prepares our hearts to go out to serve others as a team.
Everyone should be in their assigned positions approximately 20 minutes before the worship service begins -- ready and excited to welcome our guests! We never know what burdens the people we greet are carrying and we could be the ones to make a real difference in their lives that day -- an eternal difference. We SMILE and look people in the eye as we greet!

Facilities & Grounds
This ministry area involves the upkeep, maintenance and appearance of the building/facility and surrounding grounds areas. Trash must be collected during all service times as well as during any large group events. This includes inspections of our restrooms before and following our weekend services. We work hard to keep our parking area clean and the lawn must be trimmed, with seasonal flowers and plants in their best condition and all areas weeded.

Hospitality Ministry
Involves those serving and preparing food and drinks for any event sponsored by St. Mark’s Church. Volunteers are needed to prepare coffee/refreshments for the Saturday service and both Sunday services and other special events.

Greeting/Parking/Hosts/Ushers
Includes parking attendants, greeters, directional guides (both inside and outside our facilities), medical assistants, and hosts serving in the Information Center.Inside the Worship Center ushers are available to pass out programs, greet worshipers as they arrive, help guests find appropriate seats for the service, assist the pastors and worship leaders as needed, and be prepared to intervene in the event of emergency.
